late work policy
What is Late Work?
- Late work is any work that is not turned in, in class, on the day it is stated as being due on the lesson plans found on this site
How long do I have to turn in Late Work?
- Any late work can be turned in up to 2 weeks from original due date. After two weeks from the original due date, late work will not be accepted and a zero will be given for the assignment
How do I turn in Late Work?
- To turn in late work, students must bring the completed late work that follows are criteria listed on original assignment to my office hours on Wednesday, between 2:00 and 2:30 in my office - 319
Can I email Ms. Burk my late work?
- Electronic copies are never accepted. All work that is turned in (late or on-time) must be a physical copy
How do I find out what I missed in class when I was absent?
- Students are responsible for speaking to Ms. Burk via email on the day of the absence or BEFORE SCHOOL on the first day they return to school from their absence to find out what they missed.
- Students should never ask what they missed during class as this takes time from the lesson for that day and wastes the time of other students in class for that day. Always ask via email during your absence or before school on the day that you return
How do I make up bell work if I was absent?
Because I come up with bell work based on the thoughts/discussion produced in class the previous day, I do not have them all written down to reference for absent students. Instead, I ask students to free-write or creative write anything they wish. If a student has missed the bell work for the week, they are expected to creatively write for a page and a half (the length of a week's worth of bell work)
*** Late work is usually due to student absences. Attending class as much as possible and keeping absences to an absolute minimum is the best way to maintain the grade you want and avoid forgetting to submit late work or fall behind ***

tardy policy
Coming to class on time is extremely important for students to stay on track and continue enhancing their understanding of the day's lessons. Students with high attendance and few tardies are more likely to have higher grades. The reason for this is that those students never have to catch up on work and are always aware of what is happening in that day's lesson and the unit as a whole.
- Attendance is taken as soon as the bell stops ringing for the start of class. Any student not in their seat and on task by the end of the bell is tardy and will need to get a late pass
- Students should be silent and working on bell work (on the board) by the time the bell stops ringing as class has started. Students who are not on task at the beginning of class are not considered in class and will need to get a late pass
- Students who have 3 tardies in one week will receive a detention to be served the following week
- Students who arrive late to class (even with a pass) should quietly ask students around them what we are working on. Late students should then wait until the end of class to approach the teacher for any work/information that was already discussed and that the student missed due to being late. If the teacher does not have time between classes, the student will need to come see Ms. Burk BEFORE SCHOOL the following day.

music policy
- Imagine Prep's music policy is that music (headphones) are only allowed in the bistro before and after school, and during lunch. At no other times or places should students have headphones visible on their person.
- In Ms. Burk's class, students are not allowed to have visible headphones or music playing at any time
- Students with visible headphones will be given one warning and that warning will be recorded by Ms. Burk. Should the same student who received a prior warning have visible headphones again, that student will receive a detention and will have their phone or music device confiscated for the remainder of the day (students can collect their phone/device from the front office at the end of the day)

cellphone policy
- Cellphones are never to be visible or used in Ms. Burk's class
- Students with visible cellphones or cellphone use (texting) will be given one warning and that warning will be recorded by Ms. Burk. Should the same student who received a prior warning have a visible cellphone again (or should that student be texting), that student will receive a detention and will have their phone confiscated for the remainder of the day (students can collect their phonefrom the front office at the end of the day)
- Students are not to take pictures of notes. Students are expected to take notes as they are being discussed in class
- Occasionally, the class will come across a term/idea that they want defined. At this point, Ms. Burk will appoint a student to use their phone to look up the information. This is the only time a cellphone is ever allowed in class
*** Emergencies do happen. Should a student need to keep their phone nearby waiting for an important call from their parents, for example, students will need to have this approved by Ms. Burk BEFORE class, otherwise the cellphone policy listed above will be enforced ***
